Care Instructions…

Read the below guide to get a good understanding of how to care for your pieces at home.

  • All sketches I do will be on acid-free paper sealed with a Fixative to prevent any smudging and to protect the illustration.

Once you receive a sketch it is ready to pop into a frame of your choice. Since it is already sealed it doesn’t need further protection than this.

If you decide to keep your sketch unframed it may collect dust, which you can gently wipe off. But framing is still recommended so that it doesn’t warp/tarnish over time.

  • Oil paintings can be touch dry within a week but take at least 6-12 months to fully “cure”. It is not recommended to frame it during this time behind glass as it can trap moisture within the painting itself.

Keep the painting in a stable environment, clean it gently, and protect it from damage. Avoid direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperatures. Dust the painting regularly with a soft brush and consider varnishing for added protection and aesthetic enhancement. *Varnishing can only be done once a painting is fully cured.

    More Detailed Care Instructions:

    • Environmental Control:

      • Temperature and Humidity: Maintain a stable temperature and humidity, ideally between 40-60% humidity. Avoid areas prone to dampness like basements or bathrooms.

      • Sunlight: Protect the painting from direct sunlight, which can cause fading and damage. Consider using UV-filtering glass when framing.

      • Heat Sources: Keep paintings away from heat sources like radiators or air conditioning vents.

    • Cleaning:

      • Dusting: Regularly dust the painting with a soft brush (camel hair, sable, or even a clean makeup brush).

      • Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Never use water or harsh chemical cleaners, as they can damage the paint layers.

      • Light Dirt: For light dirt, a slightly damp (not wet) microfiber cloth can be used very gently, says a gallery in a blog post.

    • Varnishing:

      • Protection: Varnishing adds a protective layer against dust, dirt, and minor scratches.

      • Aesthetics: Varnish can enhance the colours and create a desired gloss, matte, or satin finish.

      • Professional Application: If you're unsure about varnishing, consult a professional or the artist who created the painting.

    • Handling and Storage:

      • Transport: When transporting, protect the painting with cardboard and bubble wrap, but avoid direct contact between the bubble wrap and the painted surface.

      • Storage: Store paintings upright and avoid laying them flat, which can cause pressure damage.

      • Security: When hanging, ensure the painting is securely fastened to the wall with appropriate hardware.
